For the first time ever in NFL history, a female participant is included in its regional scouting. Will Lauren Silberman be the first woman to play in NFL?

If you put it in perspective, Silberman's chances in becoming part of an NFL team looks close to impossible. Although she is a participant in the regional scouting, it would be hard to think that she will be picked. But, with her lead, maybe it'll open up doors and possibilities in the future.

"I was not aware that I was the first female registrant. I was actually hoping that the 2012 historical milestone rule, to allow women to play, would prompt more women to attend tryouts this year. But for me, what's important is to finally have a chance to fulfill my dreams by trying out to play in the world's most competitive football league," Silberman said in an interview with Gregg Rosenthal.

It was found out that Silberman is auditioning to become a kicker last Sunday. She will try her luck in March 2 and 3 in New Jersey. Although it may seem like it could just be a stunt or publicity, Silberman is actually serious about her auditions.

On her Master's thesis in MIT, she wrote a topic about the sports, "Double Play: Athletes' Use of Sport Video Games to Enhance Athletic Performance."

She doesn't play any professional football but she was part of the soccer team at the University of Wisconsin. While her chances are slim, Silberman said that she's in it for the experience too.

"The opportunity to attend this event could not be more exciting. Getting to meet interesting people and perfect my technique from others could not be more rewarding. Regardless of the outcome of the tryout, I hope there is a way I can contribute and strengthen the league," Silberman said.
