A Federal Labor candidate on Monday is hopeful that the proposed resources super profit tax may be amended or revised.

Allanah MacTiernan, a high-profiled politician and former Minister announced her plans to quit state politics to go against Don Randall in the federal seat of Canning.

Ms. MacTiernan is one of the candidates targeted by the Liberal party for disapproving the government's proposed resources tax.

In an interview with the local television program today, she is in favor of the tax but expressed her sentiments of some of the aspects included in the mining industry for West Australia.

"Not because of so much that the model is flawed but it doesn't really match in some respects the culture of the mining industry so that aspect where the Government is going to take on part of the risk but then give a lower rate of return doesn't seem to suit the sentiment," she said.

The proposed resource super profits tax by the Federal Government is seeking to impose mining companies a 40 per cent tax on its profits “above normal levels.”

Several unions and the coalition opposition have continuously lobbied to srap or revise the said tax, stating it will damage Australia's reputation and may drive investors away to other countries.

Foreign investors warned that Australia's move may trigger other countries to follow suit and implement their new set of tax.
