Off all the series’ that SNK have made, few are more popular than the “King of Fighters” games and the “Metal Slug” shooters. For years these games have entertained many a video game fan and now these two worlds are set to unite as one. SNK has revealed that characters from the “King of Fighters” series will be appearing in the mobile game spin-off “Metal Slug Defense.”

While the “Metal Slug” games have always been known as 2D side scrolling shooters, “Metal Slug Defense” is the first game in the series to ever be a tower defense title and to be free-to-play. The game was released last May and has reportedly been downloaded 20 Million times for both iOS and Android devices.

Now to celebrate the title’s first year, as well as the 20th anniversary of the “King of Fighters” series, SNK announced in a press release that a huge update is coming and will feature Sie Kensou and Chin Genstai from “King of Fighters.” Sie and Chin were known for being allies of Athena Asamiya in the “King of Fighters” games.

That being said, these two characters aren’t the only members of the “King of Fighters” series to make their way to the “Metal Slug Defense” roster. According to Siliconera, a previous update to “Metal Slug Defense” introduced Benimaru Nikaido, Goro Daimon, Mature, Vice and Athena Asamiya, the aforementioned ally of Sie and Chin. Now the group can be together as they take on enemy forces in “Metal Slug Defense.”

Of course new characters aren’t the only new aspects of this “Metal Slug Defense” update. This update will feature, what is being reported as the biggest sprite to hit “Metal Slug Defense” in the ultra gigantic “Stone Turtle” unit. There will also be new areas and new special missions that will be added in the game. The title will also be available in Chinese for the first time.

This new “Metal Slug Defense” update is available right now for both iOS and Android devices. The title is currently free-to-play, though in-app purchases are available and now players can use some of their favourite “King of Fighters” characters in the game.
