Joan Rivers, American T.V. presenter and stand up comic, continues to be on life support, according to a statement released by her daughter, Melissa Rivers. The 81-year-old comedienne reportedly stopped breathing and suffered a cardiac arrest when she was undergoing a routine procedure to fix her vocal cord at a clinic. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, Manhattan.

In her new statement, released on Tuesday, Melissa Rivers, 46, Joan Rivers' only child, said, "On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received. At this time, she does remain on life support."

"I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness, and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."

New York Daily News is reporting that the acerbic comedienne continues to remain in serious condition. According to the report, the doctors started the process of bringing her out of the medically induced coma on Sunday. In her previous statement, Melissa said that the family are keeping their "fingers crossed."

Citing a close friend, New York Daily News has reported that Joan Rivers' motor skills may have been "severely compromised by medical emergency." The octogenarian is likely to be in "a vegetative" state or in "a wheelchair."

Last Wednesday, a day before her throat surgery, Joan Rivers appeared healthy and happy at an employee event.
