Jake Gyllenhaal will no longer be Rapunzel's prince in Disney's upcoming movie musical Into The Woods. The Oscar nominated actor is eyeing to become part of the mountain climbing thriller Everest with Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jason Clarke.

Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur's Everest will be based on the 1996 climbing expedition tragedy that left eight climbers dead when a storm hit the world's tallest mountain.

The Everest tragedy was documented by Jon Krakauer in his book Into Thin Air. Kormakur's film will centre on the two separate expedition groups led by Rob Hall, which will be played by Clarke, and Scott Fischer, played by Gyllenhaal, from the other team.

In addition to Everest, Gyllenhaal is already committed to Dan Gilroy's directorial debut Nightcrawler. Gilroy, who co-wrote The Bourne Legacy, will begin filming in October, which will clash with Disney's production therefore leaving Gyllenhaal to drop the role of the prince.

Gyllenhaal will portray the role of a small-time Los Angeles criminal who gets caught up in the city's underground crime journalism community in Nightcrawler.

On the other hand, stars who are attached to Disney's Into The Woods are Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp.

The actor will also star alongside Hugh Jackman in Prisoners, a kidnapping thriller, to be released on September 2013 worldwide.
