iPad Baby Seat By Fisher Price Becomes Controversial, Screen Can Be Harmful to Infants?

The famous toy maker brand Fisher-Price is called by an advocacy group to put a stop on their sales of an iPad baby seat. It is said to encourage parents to leave their babies alone, watching the screens of the iPad which can be harmful to them.

According to a Reuters article, the bouncy baby seat comes with a holder for iPad and now considered the 'ultimate electronic babysitter.' However, the group against the product stated that a certain research done by the American Academy of Pediatrics shared that screen time for kids under 2 years old can suffer from language delays and even troubles sleeping. It can also potentially lead to other learning problems in the developmental days of their childhood. In short, there was no evidence included which stated any advantages it can bring to the babies.

The advocacy group added that activities that encourage hands-on play and positive interaction with other people can bring more benefits to the development of the infant's brain. "Babies thrive when they're talked to, played with, and held - not when they're alone with a screen," Dr Susan Lin, the director of the group, stated.

Daily Mail UK wrote that this is not the first time that Fisher Price has been under scrutiny and high controversy for coming up with a modern baby toy to keep up with the times of high technology. In 2012, they were awarded a worst toy recognition from the same advocacy group. It was a stuffed monkey that has a belly area where iPhone can be placed and runs apps by Fisher Price.

The infant iPad baby seat has a mirror where the iPad can be placed, Chicago Tribune reported. The description of the product at the company Web site of Fisher Price says:

"another way to stimulate and engage baby while protecting your device from baby's sticky fingers and preventing unintentional navigating to other apps.."

The company site also emphasised that the visual content it shows ends after around 10 to 12 minutes so that parents can still monitor the viewing time of their child.
