Actor Ian Somerhalder recently revealed why he is the "luckiest dude in the world." The 34-year-old "Vampire Diaries" star even shared an Instagram photo as evidence and it oozes with high levels of cuteness.

"Coming home from work... I'm the luckiest dude in the world. No doubt," Mr Someralder wrote as a caption to the shared image that shows himself snuggling to the adorable puppies. One cute puppy even licked the heartthrob actor's face while the others were busy feeding from their mum Nietzsche.

In August, Ian Somerhalder rescued Nietzsche while wandering in close proximity to the "Vampire Diaries" set in Atlanta. The actor had the surprise of his life when he found out that his girl Nietzsche was pregnant when he had her spayed.

Fans were able to follow Nietzsche's story as Mr Somerhalder took to social networking sites Twitter and Instagram the news about his girl giving birth to eight adorable puppies. Even TVD co-star and ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev showed her support for Ian.

Furthermore, Mr Somerhalder used the social media in increasing the people's awareness on the significance of working together towards having answers to taming the worldwide overpopulation of animals like cats and dogs.

Ian's caption in the shared Instagram image continues with a message that appeals for support on the issue. The actor's plea reads: "However, we HAVE to develop species specific sterilization drugs for pups and kitties. They are amazing, but we have too many in this world. Please help us! Please go to isfoundation.org and donate to my Birthday Project. I know it's a lot to ask but it will make such a huge impact and I'm so so grateful."

The actor, who is known for his solid dedication to environmental causes and animal rights, also encouraged his fans to join him in his journey for a good cause. Ian further posted: "Let your voice be heard for those who have NO VOICE Lets do this together."

Another environmental commitment that excites Ian Somerhalder is the project for the "Girls Impact the World/Green Ian Somerhalder" award. According to the KPopStarz report, the actor is searching for a girl who is not only sensitive to environmental issues but willing to offer solutions to the issue and increase environmental awareness through films.

"Young people have some of the most creative minds on the planet. I'm excited to be a judge for the Girls Impact the World Film Festival. I can't wait to see the film submissions. I am sure that the solutions they come up with for these challenges will blow our minds!" the TVD star exclaimed.
