New homes sales jumped 4.3 percent in Australia in March, bringing to three consecutive months the sector registered gains which paints a positive outlook into the domestic housing market.

In a survey conducted by the Housing Industry Association amongst major builders, sales of detached new houses registered a positive gain of 5.8 percent in March which offset the 10 percent decline in the volatile multi-unit sector.

In Queensland, sales of detached new houses climbed a robust 11.1 percent, which reverses the drop posted in February at the height of the flooding there.

Sales in New South Wales also posted the highest gains at 13.5 percent during the month, while Victoria reported a rise of 3.6 per cent.

In the second half of last year, home sales were subdued after the Reserve Bank of Australia lifted interest rates four times.

This week, the central bank has announced that cash interest rates will be placed on hold, although analysts are predicting an increase in the coming months to stop inflation.
