Google removes Nexus One from online store
Phone renamed as Dev Phone
Google has removed its Nexus One phone from its online store, but has renamed it the Android Dev Phone and continues to sell it to registered Android developers.
The phone, available to developers for US$529, will allow developers to tweak applications on the phone before launching them publically. The phone comes unlocked so that customers can install their own SIM card and custom versions of Android.
The phone can now be found at the Android Dev site and can be purchased by anyone who pays the $25 fee to become an Android developer.
The Nexus One was originally planned as the first phone that would launch Google online store, but customer service proved to be an obstacle. Google only offered email-based customer service available over two days. The search giant stopped selling phones from its online site in July after only four months.
