Google is currently developing something on a smartwatch with some proofs from sources like Android Police. The prototype was supposedly created in the previous year by Motorola for Google. In Motorola's event at the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Motorola will be releasing its smartwatch this year addressing issues of battery life and style. If it will push through with Google's Android operating system, it would be great to also have Google Now.

Codename Gem

Codenamed Gem, the Google smartwatch prototype was believed to exist in 2013. Android Police stressed this prototype was not the hardware's final version. The device already has rubberized band, bottom bezel square display, rocker and button on its lower left. There was also a presence of back button opposite the Motorola logo.

The prototype represented a fundamental smartwatch with few buttons. It looked different than earlier thought about smartwatches. There is no presence of camera like those of Samsung smartwatches.

Wearables In 2014

Wearables are not new in the world of technology. In 2013, these came with Galaxy Gear from Samsung, smartwatch from Pebble and fitness trackers, including Google Glass and the lineup becomes more real. Wearables came feature-rich in 2014 with the recent debut of Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit. There is a possibility that these will become the hottest items in the consumer's list this year.

Smartwatch Prototype Features

Consumers may have to wait this year to see this prototype smartwatch come into life. Motorola and Google may collaborate to develop a watch right now. The gadget will run Android OS and will have dedicated controls for voice commands and fitness.

Another feature is the "3 Bit mode," which seeks to save battery by reducing color palette on screen. Gem is not clear to finish as it needs changes before shipment. Also, Motorola phones have been acquired by Lenovo and there are doubts that the smartwatch project will reach its finished product version. On the positive side, however, the smartwatch can be LG-made.

Google Now On Smartwatches

When Google will push through with its own smartwatch and have it run in Google Now, the need for the smartwatch may increase. Some consumers at this point may not see the daily usability of smartwatches but having Google Now on their wrists may change their minds.
