Google Nexus 10 2 release date will happen later this year and will bring not-so-spectacular specs and features, according to reports.

GforGames claimed that the successor of Google's Nexus 10 will be manufactured by HTC, as the company is reported to have won the bidding for creating the 10-inch slab. It is known that HTC has no known success in the tablet market. Thus, if Google Nexus 10 2 will be based on previous HTC tablets, the specs and features may disappoint consumers.

Google Nexus 10 2 was speculated to be released since late 2013 but it was clear that Google has no intention of releasing the tablet anytime soon. It is rumoured to come with a new version Android OS on its release date reported as the Android 4.5. Google is known for releasing devices paired with a new mobile software on its launch.

Google still has not confirmed the specs and features of full-fledged tablet. Below are some of the features of Nexus 10 2 are 10-inch screen with 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution; NVIDIA Tegra 4 chipset or latest Snapdragon CPU or Samsung's Exynos chip; and 5-megapixel rear camera and a 3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Taiwanese media Focus Taiwan, citing Commercial Times, reported that HTC will be taking the helm in creating the Nexus 10 2 with shipping to start in the third quarter of the year. It was previously reported that HTC will also work on the Nexus 8 or the company will work on a different tablet for Google. However, latest reports claimed that Google will rekindle its partnership with ASUS for the Nexus 8 tablet.

This move is beneficial to HTC as similar partnerships have greatly benefitted companies like Samsung and ASUS. This could be a good opportunity for HTC to prove itself once more in the tablet market after some of its devices failed to impress the consumers.

Russian analyst Elder Murtazin said earlier this month that Google will drop the whole Nexus line in favour of Google Play Edition of Android devices.

"Nexus line by Google is over in 2015 :) Yes- this line will be replaced by Play Edition," said Murtazin on Twitter. "Google won't be competitor in hardware for Samsung or any other brand. Moto is under question in that landscape. They will be reprofile."
