Fans of “Gilmore Girls” have been hopeful about a full return ever since Netflix released a four episode revival last year. But while the streaming company has announced it would like to continue working on the series, actor Milo Ventimiglia, who portrays Rory Gilmore’s previous love interest Jess Mariano, said he believes it should be left alone.

The relationship of Jess and Rory has had a following since the earlier seasons of the show, and fans have watched their love grow and diminish -- but not completely wither -- over time. But with his appearance in Netflix’s revival entitled “A Year In The Life,” hope of a rekindled romance blossomed yet again. However, if it were up to Ventimiglia, Jess and Rory’s story will remain open-ended.

“I hear rumours that they’re bring back everything that I’ve ever been a part of,” he told USA Today. “I think it’s exciting. At times, though, I think it’s too much.”

He then went on to tell the publication that there is definitely a lot more to talk about, especially since “Gilmore Girls” left audiences with what is arguably one of the biggest cliffhangers in the show’s history. Ventimiglia admitted that he enjoyed getting back on the set with his co-stars, but he was content with how everything played out. “I think it was great for the audience and fans to get just one small taste of that world again,” he explained. “But, at the same time, I think people should not get so greedy.”

The show’s return is ultimately not in the hands of Ventimiglia, but he will have a say on whether or not Jess returns to Stars Hallow should the show make a complete comeback. Netflix has not confirmed whether or not it will continue the show, but it has been speculated for some time. And earlier this month, the company’s content officer Ted Sarandos told the Press Association (via BBC) that it has been in talks about the possibility of another return.

Sarandos confirmed that everything was still “very preliminary,” particularly the conversation with the show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. However, he did confirm that it was a definite possibility, and this alone has given fans enough hope. But with Ventimiglia’s earlier statement, the chances of Jess’ comeback seems unlikely.

The entire seven seasons of the original “Gilmore Girls” can be streamed on Netflix. The four episodes of “A Year In The Life” can be streamed on the site as well.
