A storyboard drawing of a scene from episode 1 of “Game of Thrones” Season 5 shows how the producers planned the brutal death scene. The producers have also released the promo video of the second episode showing the kingdom of Dorne and Arya Stark in Braavos. [Spoiler alert]

The “Game of Thrones” Season 5 premiere episode featured the brutal death scene of Mance Rayder played by Ciarán Hinds. The official website of the show, MakingGameofThrones, that shares details from the production set has revealed the storyboard of the brutal death scene.

Mance Rayder was given a choice to either bend the knee and swear allegiance to Stannis Baratheon or be burned alive. Mance, being one of the Free Folk, chose freedom and death rather than to serve in Stannis’ army.

The storyboard shows how the director used a drawing to envision how exactly each shot in the scene would be filmed. The drawings show Mance Rayder being escorted by two guards, meeting Stannis and Melisandre and Free Folk and people of the Night’s Watch standing on the sidelines. Some of the dialogues that featured in the scene can also be seen written on the side.

The “Game of Thrones” Season 5 premiere episode ended with Jon Snow shooting an arrow at Mance Rayder and killing him, an act that was seen as a mercy that Stannis had not approved of. Stannis may remember this when he makes Jon “an offer” in the next episode, according to the official synopsis.

According to the books written by George R.R. Martin, on which the TV show is based on, Stannis Baratheon will offer to make Jon Snow the Lord of Winterfell and take revenge on the Boltons for betraying his family. The offer comes with an obligation that Jon will have to serve the interests of Stannis.

Jon Snow has always wanted to be given the family name of Stark. “Game of Thrones” Season 5 episode 2 will give him the opportunity to not only become a Stark, but also the effective ruler of the northern kingdom. Jon will have to choose between preparing for the eventual fight against the White Walkers and taking revenge for his family.
