Forbes announces 'major upgrade'
Most reporters 'starting (blogs) from scratch
Forbes, the business publication, is set to introduce a "major upgrade." A report says that the magazine is requiring every reporter to have a blog.
Joe Pompeo, a reporter from Business Insider, says that most reporters are "starting [their blogs] from scratch." The blogs are said to be based on a "completely revamped" version of Wordpress.
The move is thought to be the brainchild of Lewis Dvorkin, the publication's new chief product officer. The move comes days after the company closed down its True/Slant blog network. Michael Roston, True/Slant's editor hinted that operations may be incorporated into the publication.
"For other news organisations looking for our lessons learned, the implications are clear. Most legacy news organisations continue to struggle with how to harmonise their print product with what they produce online (not to leave out their mobile apps). They grapple with what comes first - print, or online? Connecting the two together becomes a managerial struggle as both sides grapple with which element of the business should take the lead. True/Slant offered up an alternative approach: a news organisation could let neither side take the lead," he said.
Dvorkin was quoted last month as saying that a "re-architecting" is forthcoming for the publication. "The goal is to tear down the walls between content creators, audience and marketers... How do you get those three voices talking to each other so that everyone knows who's talking? To me, if you can do that with transparency and legitimacy, that's the future of the free press," he said.
