From A Face To A Smooth Ball: A Recap Of Strange Objects Found In Mars [Watch Video]

Since 1976, many objects have been found on the Red Planet ranging from a face to a smooth ball. Many of the objects that were found garnered a lot of media speculation as it could mean the existence of Martian life.

According to Geek.com, the most recent finding on Mars was that of a smooth ball and a traffic light before which a thigh bone was also seen. NASA's Curiosity Rover sent back images through which the smooth ball, traffic light and thigh bone were noticed.

A Face On Mars- 1976

According to Space.com, the Viking Mission 1 snapped images of Mars for scientists at NASA to study to find Viking 1's sister ship, Viking 2. It captured an image which showed an object that resembled a human face. NASA explained that it was just a huge rock formation that resembled a human head.

Skull- 2006

A report by the Website, Mars Anomaly Research, suggested that the Spirit Sol 513 mission found a skull in Mars. It was reported to look like an anatomically correct human skull. According to Telegraph.co.uk, it was a result of tampering of the image.

Woman- 2007

Space.com reported that for many centuries, the idea that there was life on Mars had been suggested. In 2007, photos released by NASA's robot Spirit on the surface of Mars apparently showed a human-like figure, a woman at that. When the images were released, several Web sites on the internet suggested that the figure could be alive.

Flower- 2012

NASA's Mars Curiosity Rover has been sending back lot of pictures since it landed on the Red Planet in 2012. An odd flower-like object was observed through one of the initial images that the rover sent back with internet users dubbing it as the "Mars flower." Researchers said that the flowers don't really suggest sign of life but does add intrigue to the site that it was found.

Door Handle- 2013

In 2013, a year after the Curiosity Rover reached Mars, a shiny, metallic-looking object was observed in the images sent back by the rover. The object seemed to resemble a door handle or door knob.

Helmet- 2013

A helmet-like object was observed by bloggers on the images by the Curiosity Rover. The bloggers claimed that it was a helmet but then researchers confirmed that they were nothing but rocks.

Rat- 2013

A object shaped like a rat was given so much attention that there was a Twitter account with the twitter handle @RealMarsRat. It was observed in an image on March 2013 and then was found to be a rock.

Iguana- 2013

In January 2013, an image by Mars Curiosity Rover captured an image of an iguana-like object. It seemed to have a tail, dewlap and an eye. Then later, this object was also found to be a rock.
