The first concept art for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Stephen Strange has been revealed. Likewise, “Doctor Strange” director Scott Derrickson has given an update on what viewers should expect to see from the film when it hits US theatres on Nov. 4, 2016.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Derrickson talk about “Doctor Strange” in the Marvel featurette below shared by JoBlo. The video gives fans their first official look at the inspiration behind Cumberbatch’s costume and character look as the Sorcerer Supreme.

Nearing the end of the video, there’s a concept art of Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Marvel really took into consideration the comic book counterpart of his character when visualising his costume. The iconic red cloak, slick hair and black beard are still the dominant look on the actor as seen in the comics.

In the same video, Derrickson also talks about film expectations. The director assured the movie will be a “mind-trip action film.” He also describes Cumberbatch’s character as someone who has an “incredibly complicated emotional structure going on.”

Feige, on the other hand, says having the whole magical concept of “Doctor Strange” is one of the “primary goals” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it comes to bringing life to the characters on screen.

Fans have already seen how Cumberbatch looks like as the surgeon Doctor Stephen Strange. Set photos from the Nepal filming of the movie were released a few weeks back. The images show Cumberbatch sporting a bushy beard and a dishevelled hair. The scene being filmed seemed to tell of the doctor’s search for the Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange, was also spotted doing a scene with Cumberbatch in Nepal.

In the comic book story, Doctor Strange travels to the Himalayas to seek the aid of the Ancient One after a car accident left him unable to go back to work. He believes the Ancient One will be able to help him gain back control of his hands. Instead, he becomes his protégé and learns the ways of the magic. Thus, he becomes the Sorcerer Supreme.
