Discovery Channel's ‘Shark Week 2014’ Schedule: 13 Specials about Sharks Including Hammerheads, Zombie and Alien Sharks [WATCH VIDEOS]

"Shark Week 2014" has officially started last Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014. It will end on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014. According to Discovery Channel, there will be 13 specials about sharks in "Shark Week 2014." In 2013, there were only 11 shows, so expect more sharks this 2014, including Hammerheads, Zombie and Alien Sharks. On Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, "Shark Week 2014" or "FinFest" showed "Air Jaws: Fins of Fury" (it tracked a shark named Colossus with Natural History producer Jeff Kurr and his team) at 8:00 p.m., "Shark of Darkness: Wrath of Submarine" (about a 30-foot great white shark named "Submarine" off the coast of South Africa) at 9:00 p.m., "Shark After Dark Live" at 11 p.m. and "After Shark After Dark Live" at 12 a.m.

On Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 these shows were aired on the Discovery Channel:

8:00 p.m. - "Great White Serial Killer" #ExtraSharky

9:00 p.m. - "Jaws Strike Back" - about the hunting behavior of great white sharks in Guadalupe Island with the REMUS* SharkCam team and marine biologist Greg Skomal.

10:00 p.m. - "Monster Hammerhead" - about a team of anglers and scientists investigating a legendary hammerhead shark in Florida for the past 60 years.

11:00 p.m. - "Shark After Dark"

12 a.m. - "After Shark After Dark Live"


Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014:

8:00 p.m. - "Monster Hammerhead" #ExtraSharky

9:00 p.m. - "Alien Sharks: Return to the Abyss" - investigate bioluminescent sharks in the Indian Ocean with shark researcher Paul Clerkin

10:00 p.m. - "Lair of the Mega Shark" - with shark experts Andy Casagrande and Jeff Kerr and a 20 foot Great White shark in New Zealand.

11:00 p.m. - "Shark After Dark"

12 a.m. - "After Shark After Dark Live"


Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014:

8:00 p.m. - "Lair of the Mega Shark" #ExtraSharky

9:00 p.m. - "Zombie Sharks" - about sharks' tonic immobility. With Professional diver Eli Martinez

10:00 p.m. - "Spawn of Jaws 2: The Birthing" - follow the birth of a Great White shark with Dr. Michael Domeier and a pregnant female Great White shark named Gil Rakers

11:00 p.m. - "Shark After Dark"

12:00 a.m. - "After Shark After Dark Live"

8:00 p.m. - "Zombie Sharks" #ExtraSharky

9:00 p.m. - "I Escaped Jaws 2" - shark attack stories from survivors

9:00 p.m. - "Megalodon: The New Evidence" - Marine Biologist Collin Drake investigates the April 2013 attack of a fishing vessel believed to be caused by a huge shark.

Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014

8:00 p.m. - "Sharkageddon" #ExtraSharky

9:00 p.m. - "Great White Matrix" - about Great White shark attacks in Australia. With shark attack survivor Paul de Gelder and camera man Andy Casagrande

10:00 p.m. - "Sharksanity"

The "Shark Week 2014" schedule above includes a late-night live talk show titled "Shark After Dark" that is hosted by Josh Wolf. The interactive show lasts for an hour and it features shark experts and various celebrity guests that viewers can talk to using Twitter.

According to CNN, "Shark Week 2014," which is the 27th edition of the shark special from Discovery Channel, was watched by more than 3.6 million total viewers. "Air Jaws: Fin of Fury" was watched by 3.3 million viewers and "Shark of Darkness: Wrath of Submarine" was watched by 3.8 million viewers. Plus, more women aged 25-54 years old (18% increase) tuned in to watch the shark shows, particularly the "Shark of Darkness: Wrath of Submarine" which got a 2.43 rating from them.

Meanwhile, Vox reports that "Shark Week 2014" made some things up including the great white shark that is about the size of a submarine in "Shark of Darkness: Wrath of Submarine." Scientific Communicator for EDNA Interactive and zoologist Michelle Wcisel wrote on Southern Fried Science that "Submarine" is a mere urban legend and that the documentary about it is fake.
