Disabling Windows Hello can prolong Surface Pro 4, Surface Book battery life
A glitch can reduce the device's battery life by 12 percent every hour

Microsoft's Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 are being hit by a lot of user complaints about their batteries draining far too quickly.
Thankfully, the Redmond-based tech giant has finally come up with a solution that might fix this problem. Since this news came out, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book users found out the bug fix allows them to leave their devices on standby mode and not have their batteries drain.
It was discovered that whenever the hybrid laplets don’t automatically enter the power-saving mode when placed on full standby mode, according to Windows Central. Instead, the screen displays are just turned off.
It must be noted, however, that even if the display is off, apps still run and power is expended. When this happens, the device's battery life is reduced by 12 percent every hour.
The cause of this glitch was initially thought to be a faulty display driver that comes with the devices' new HD processor from Intel. Apparently, this particular part never powers down.
Tech Times, however, reported that users have devised a method that helps keep their devices' batteries from draining. Merely turning off the tablets' Windows Hello facial recognition system saves battery life. Plus, overheating problems are also avoided.
The IR cameras of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book tend to remain on more often than not. There were also other problems associated with the IR cameras that were addressed once certain components were disabled.
The tablets’ embargo review period didn’t include any reports about battery draining issues. It must be noted that the firmware for Windows Hello wasn’t launched at the time.
Many Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 users have tried out this manual bug fix and have verified it works. But not every single user that tried it out got successful results.
