Dell, the computer maker, says that its Streak tablet won't be released by the end of July. The announcement comes after the company erroneously posted an online message that says the device would be available for sale on its Web site by Wednesday.

It was a mistake, and we took that information down this morning... I can say definitely that the Dell Streak won't go on sale in July," said Matt Parretta, Dell's spokesman, in an interview with Computerworld.

Parretta's statement belies a FAQ on the company's website. The FAQ asked, "When will the Dell Streak be available for purchase?" with the answer, "The Dell Streak will be available for purchase in late July!"

Technology news Web sites reported that customers who signed up for a pre-sale offer on Dell's Web site would be sent an e-mail with a link to purchase a mobile phone for $299 with a new AT&T contract. Dell and AT&T have yet to confirm the pricing.
