Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is getting into his new character, Owen Chase, for the upcoming film "In the Heart of the Sea" after portraying the hammer-wielding God of Thunder Thor in "Thor: The Dark World." In the Just Jared report, the 30-year-old actor was spotted on Monday, November 18, greeting the waiting fans on the movie's set in Canary Islands, Spain.

Mr Hemsworth gladly signed autographs, posed for photographs and even gave hugs to the excited fans in-between filming scenes for his new movie with co-stars Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw and Benjamin Walker. The Aussie actor was wearing his pirate-looking costume of dirty shirt, beige trousers, a brown waistcoat and heavy work boots when the fans welcomed him with deafening screams.

The new movie project reunites Chris Hemsworth with film director Ron Howard after working together in "Rush." However, Mr Howard wanted a "different physical look" for the Aussie actor, according to the Daily Mail report.

"Heart of the Sea is the true events that inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick. A bunch of sailors in a whaling ship get struck by a whale, the ship sinks and they jump onto the small rafts and drift for 90 days. And we have to get rather skinny. So we're on 500 or 600 calories a day," Mr Hemsworth shared during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The actor further recounted the kind of diet that he and his co-stars had to go through during filming. "It's funny, you've never heard 15 big, burly guys playing sailors talk about their calorie-count, what they should and shouldn't eat, what their cheat meal is going to be," Chris shared.

He added: "I mean, you can consume 600 calories in a milkshake. So it ends up being a couple of small salads, a couple of small pieces of protein and that's kind of it and you go to bed hungry. And then you have like a fasting period of 15 hours, like you stop eating completely, and then you have little meals through the day."

Chris Hemsworth currently films "In the Heart of the Sea" in between locations of the Canaries and Levensden Studios in London. The filming location appears to be convenient for the actor since it is close to his home where his wife, Elsa Pataky, and daughter India Rose lives.
