An advert which describes what to do when a baby is choking has been credited with saving the precious lives of at least 36 children. The voice over in the advert has been given by celebrities David Mitchell, David Walliams and Sir John Hurt.

What inspired St John's Ambulance to create such an advert were the staggering statistics which revealed that four of five parents did not know what necessary steps to take if their baby started choking. They decided to launch a campaign for raising awareness about how to save a choking baby and ended up creating this advert.

The 40-second video has crossed over 7 million views across platforms, including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter in just three months. Reportedly, the advert has been successful in saving dozens of lives so far. The video shows animated characters and objects that could be a potential choking hazard—a toy, pen lid, peanut or a jelly baby.

Becca Hensman from Aldershot, Hampshire, claims to have been able to save the life of her baby only after watching the 40-second advert, reported The Express.

"When my baby son Jax started choking it was an especially scary moment as he had required resuscitation when he was born and he's had trouble getting rid of the mucus in his lungs in the past. On the 21st January 2015 I was sat on the sofa with my 12-week-old baby boy asleep in my arms when suddenly he started making a strange noise and started to go a funny colour. It became very clear quickly that he was choking on something. I'd seen the St John Ambulance advert a few days earlier so I flipped my son over on to my leg and after the third back slap I gave him he coughed,” revealed Hensman.

After tasting the advert's success, St John's Ambulance has not launched a free e-book titled “The Pen That Lost His Lid” to facilitate learning of first aid among children and parents together.
