Actor Burt Reynolds is facing flak for his comments on “Two and a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen for contracting HIV. He made the controversial remarks on the talk show “Loose Women” when asked if he sympathised with Sheen’s fate. The 79-year-old Reynolds said Sheen is paying the price for his bad lifestyle. Reynolds himself was a subject of the same controversy back in the 80s when rumours spread that he is HIV positive due to an extreme weight loss caused by his addiction to prescription pain killers.

“I don't feel bad for him. He's getting what he deserves. If you're going to misbehave, then they're going to get you. He misbehaved badly, very badly. But you know when you're that age, it's tough. All the things are coming at you and it's difficult,” Reynolds said, reports 9News.com.au.

Sheen’s ex-fiancée and adult film actress Scottine Ross, better known as Brett Rossi, has filed a lawsuit against the actor claiming that he forced Rossi to get an abortion because he was HIV positive. Sheen has, however, denied the claims and has called Rossi an "extortionist."

According to Sky News, Reynolds is close friends with Sheen’s father, Martin Sheen, that’s why he feels bad for him but not for his son. Speaking on ITV’s “Loose Women,” Reynolds said that Martin is a very decent man and a close friend.

Soon after, social media filled up with comments against Reynolds. Terrence Higgins Trust, a UK-based HIV charity, chastised Reynolds. Executive director of external affairs of the Trust, Terrence Higgins said that the comments made are absolutely unnecessary. As per Sydney Morning Herald, Higgins believes that it is not right to say that someone deserves HIV or any other health condition.

Sheen’s legal team, on the other hand, has urged Rossi’s lawsuit be dismissed as she is “motivated by greed.” Rossi has also publicly stated that Sheen never disclosed his HIV positive status before having unprotected sex. She even suffered from verbal and physical abuse by the actor, writes New Zealand Herald.

Sheen flared up with these allegations, met his lawyer Marty Singer and both filed documents at Los Angeles Superior Court to dismiss the complaint. Singer has also stated in previous reports that Sheen was never violent towards Rossi and that it was Rossi who “attempted to extort millions of dollars by disclosing Sheen's medical condition even though she had signed a confidentiality agreement.”
