Although Floyd Mayweather, Jr. came up a winner in the controversial knockout scenario in the fourth round bout with novice boxer Victor Ortiz, he failed to impress the world, among them Manny Pacquiao who maintained he had very poor sportsmanship, AP reported.

Like many experts and sports athlete, Manny Pacquiao agreed Mayweather did not violate any rules in boxing. However, Mayweather's shot hurled against Ortiz was considered "cheap" as clearly, referee Joe Cortez was having a conversation when the "knockout" punched was thrown.

During the said controversial punch in the fourth round causing Ortiz to fall to the canvass, Cortez gave him the count, which also stunned the judges and the spectators. But Cortez was quick to justify his act.

"Time was in. The fighter needed to keep his guard up. Mayweather did nothing illegal," Cortez confidently told the press.

Meanwhile, in the post-bout interview with HBO analyst Larry Merchant, Mayweather played the victim emphasizing that Ortiz gave him a "dirty shot."

"I got hit with a dirty shot," he quipped to Merchant, referring to an earlier scene where Ortiz pinioned Mayweather on the ropes, collided with him, and gave him a headbutt causing a cut on Mayweather's chin

The judges deducted a point from Ortiz with the deliberate headbutt.

When asked about his surprise punch on Ortiz, Mayweather justified the latter failed to protect himself all the time. Every boxer knows it is a cardinal rule.

"Meaning even though it appeared that he was not protecting himself . . . That you unfairly took advantage of it," Merchant pressed on his query.

Mayweather responded by avoiding the question and thanking those who availed of the pay-per-view and came to witness the fight in Las Vegas.
