'Black-ish' Season 2, episode 4 full recap: 'Daddy's Day' [VIDEOS]

In this week’s episode of “Black-ish,” Andre Johnson (Anthony Anderson) is determined to create a new holiday dedicated for fathers. Instead of the stale and underwhelming Father’s Day, he wants to push the idea of creating “Daddy’s Day” in the fall.
With the traditional Father’s Day falling just a few weeks after Mother’s Day, Andre feels that fathers are always getting the remnants of the kids’ efforts. Andre said that after a full-blown celebration on Mother’s Day, kids often don’t bother to think of something special for dads. [Scroll down for video]
“Daddy’s Day” will be scheduled in the fall, several months after Mother’s Day. Andre and his colleagues at the advertising agency he works for are all sold on the idea. They decide to make a commercial and pitch it to several international brands.
When Andre’s boss suggests for his daughter, Zoey (Yara Shahidi), to star in the commercial, Andre heads straight home to get her on board. Unfortunately, Zoey is acting like a typical teenager. She refuses driving lessons from Andre and just flats out declines any of his offers in his attempts to show that he's a good father. When Zoe's friend, Resheida (Zendaya), speaks up about not having a dad and how Andre is doing a great job, Andre tries to teach Zoey a lesson.
He decides to make Resheida the star of his commercial, which can be seen in the vide below. Apart from that, Andre also offers her the driving lessons that Zoey refused. Zoey gets annoyed by all the attention that Andre is showering her friend. She tries to hit back by getting driving lessons from Andre’s colleague, Charlie.
Since Charlie is an irresponsible drunk, Zoey fails her driving test. Resheida passes with flying colours, and Zoey confronts Andre. Andre claims it's not his fault since she was the one who refused his help in the first place. Zoey blurts out that she was only acting like a teenager and said that showering someone else his attention is hardly a solution.
Andre ponders on what Zoey said and starts to feel guilty for using Resheida to teach Zoey a lesson. He gets so bothered by the situation that he completely messes up his presentation to potential sponsors.
Even though the presentation turns out to be a bust, he decides to get things sorted at home. However, Zoey beats him to the punch. She gathers her siblings and they all surprise Andre with a Daddy’s Day celebration.
All is back in order in the Johnson household. Pops continues to be the old-school abusive dad, while Andre continues to be the progressive, modern, All-American dad.
“Black-ish” returns next Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
