Berdych Busts Aussie Bet Tomic, Faces Nadal Next In Quarter-Finals Of 2015 Australian Open

Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic had little trouble beating Bernard Tomic of Australia winning in straight sets, 6-2 7-6 (3) 6-2 to advance to the quarter-final round where he faces world no. 3 Rafael Nadal. The Berdych-Tomic match lasted just two hours and a minute and Berdych dominated the first and final sets finishing it in just about 30 minutes each.
Berdych had a total of 17 aces for the match, 7 and 6 in the first and third sets, plus he was also 13-of-15 (87%) on net points and had a total of 52 winners. Tomic couldn’t take advantage of Berdych’s 33 unforced errors. The Australian admitted the that Berdych’s aggressiveness to start the match set the tone early.
“He played very good from the start. It was tough for me. He was hitting that ball so well, like he always does. Felt like he got that edge over me in the first few games,” Tomic said in an interview in the tournament’s official website. “That's what happens when you play a player like Tomas. You have to be ready. If you don't, you know, hold him in that first set, he gets a bit of a front foot and it becomes difficult. You know, it was not a bad match for me, but he was on top of me for the whole match. He's a very good player, so I can't complain. It was not a bad match for me.”
When asked of how he’ll evaluate his performance in the first grand slam tournament of the season, Tomic said that he was okay with his campaign but his goal is to get to a Top 20 ranking this ATP season. Berdych made his eighth consecutive quarter-finals appearance at the Australian Open.
“Well, I like this place. I always trying to come back very prepared. You know, you have pretty much a good sense of time when you going to play and you can plan the things quite easy,” Berdych said post-match. “So, yeah, I mean, that's one of the reasons. I mean, really, the conditions and the way how it is all around here, that feels good to me. So that's why I like to play here.”
