The “Battlefield” series is known for open maps, fully controllable vehicles and free-form destruction. “Battlefield Hardline” developer, Visceral games talks about the changes to the team has made to the typical large-scale destruction seen in previous games. Large-scale level destruction returns, but the studio introduced a new set of features it calls dense micro destruction.

Taking to the official “Battlefield” website, “Battlefield Hardline” Senior MP Level Designer Evan Champlin to explain the ideas behind dense micro destruction. He explained that gamers will be able to blow doorway sized halls through the interior walls of buildings, punch smaller holes in them with gunfire, and erode cover using small-arms fire.

Maps will also be littered with interactive objects players can use to their advantage in battle, from lockable doors to fire extinguishers, dangling chandeliers and more. If this sounds worrying to fans of large-scale destruction, it shouldn’t. As reported by GamesRadar, the concept of “Levolution,” a large-scale, map-altering feature introduced in “Battlefield 4” is making a return in “Battlefield Hardline.”

Champlin states that all nine of the maps “Hardline” ships with include some form of Levolution. In the “Downtown” map, players can send topple a giant tower crane, sending crashing through surrounding skyscrapers and opening new map routes before it hits the ground. Growhouse is home to a Fuel Car which opens up new flanking routes when destroyed, a tactic best used by robbers looking for a quick escape route, or by cops looking to surprise unwitting bad guys. The full rundown of large-scale events includes:

- Downtown - Tower Crane Collapse, opens new routes between capture points.

- Bank Job - Vault Roof Collapse, creates a new route into the heart of the Bank, the vault.

- Dust Bowl - Dust Storm, reduces engagement ranges and masks nearby sounds.

- Growhouse - Train Car Explosion, creates a new route into the grow room in the basement.

- Derailed - Train Explosion and Bridge Collapse, brings the bridge crashing into the river below, creating new driving lanes and jumps, changing the location of the capture point.

HardcoreGamer notes that the team at Visceral has shared final specifications for the resolution of “Battlefield Hardline” on PS4 and Xbox One. The game will ship running at a resolution of 900p on Sony’s console, and 720p on Microsoft’s machine.

As stated by VideoGamer, this may come as something of a disappointment for gamers considering previous comments, which suggested the game would run at a full 1080p on both consoles. Shortly after the game was revealed, Sony’s Adam Boyes said the game would run at 1080p/60fps on PS4 and “Hardline” creative director Ian Milham followed that statement up by saying the Xbox One version would match the PS4 version line for line.

As exclusively reported, “Battlefield Hardline” has seen a number of changes large and small made to gameplay since the conclusion of its recent open beta. Xbox gamers in the “EA Access” program will be able to play the first episode of the game’s single player mode and up to ten hours of multiplayer content starting March 12. “Battlefield Hardline” goes into wide release for everyone else on March 17, on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
