Fans have waited patiently for months, and now the identity of Prometheus is finally revealed. The once mysterious character has opted to get rid of his mask, and he was exposed as Star City District Attorney Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra).

The revelation came after Prometheus and the Vigilante came to match. While several fans were left shocked as Chase’s alter-ego is Vigilante himself, executive producer Wendy Mericle had provided an explanation.

“One of the reasons we did it was because, of course, everyone would be thinking he’d be Vigilante,” Mericle told reporters. She said they imagined that it would be more fun if there if they would put a twist. “We thought it would be a really fun twist to do what we’ve always done on the show, which is to take the comic book mythology and turn it on its head,” she added.

But “Arrow” viewers are not the only ones who were shocked by the revelation. Segarra himself was surprised too, saying he got to Vancouver thinking he was playing the Vigilante all along.

The actor has shared that he was reading Vigilante comics and researching about Chase at the same time. “I got to work and I was talking to Marc [Guggenheim] like, ‘I’m really doing my research, I’m really being studious about this Vigilante guy,’ and he was like 'What do you mean? That’s not who you’re playing,'” Variety quotes Segarra.

The series’ lead character, Oliver (Stephen Amell), and the rest of the “Green Arrow” team are not yet aware about the identity of Chase. Mericle and Segarra said this information will be revealed to them soon, but it is not going to be abrupt.

Mericle shared that it is actually one of the fun things in season 5. She said they preferred to see the characters not knowing that he is actually Prometheus and still continuing to interact with Chase. The show’s executive producer has also teased fans about what will happen next in the fifth season of “Arrow,” saying Prometheus will go after people Oliver cares about.

She believes that seeing villains targeting the people close to the protagonist’s life is something that the audiences have seen in the past. The plan of Prometheus is to break Oliver down psychologically.

“Arrow” season 5 airs Tuesdays at 8:10 a.m. The second half of the current instalment premiered Jan. 25 on the CW in the US.
