Apple uses hidden ‘GPS’ in new Survey App to pinpoint your indoor location
Apple hired experts to develop indoor mapping tools
Apple recently introduced an Indoor Survey app accessible on iOS that helps business owners create mapping locations for their venues. The GPS software hidden within the app indicates locations by measuring radio frequency signal data combined with the iPhone’s sensor data.
The app isn’t available under the search option but you can download it after you’ve registered in Apple Maps connect. Following the drop points shown on the map leads you to preferred location in any public venue, be it a restaurant or store, said 9to5mac.
For years, Apple has hired experts to develop indoor mapping tools meant to include a hidden GPS in an app. This indoor survey app was first launched in 2013 and christened “iBeacons”. It was a phenomenal breakthrough that used small bluetooth transmitters to notify venue owners and retailers of specific locations they wanted.
With years of hard work and more research, the tech giant became better with mapping tools, as is evident through the Indoor Survey app launched recently. The app was first developed by a Silicon Valley startup company Apple bought for US$20 million back in 2013, noted Apple Insider.
Apple Maps Connect is yet another app launched by the tech giant last October meant to aid business owners provide mapping information about their venue. Only large business firms can use the app, provided they furnish information to the general public via Wi-Fi so as to attract customers, reported The Verge.
Chances are the latest Indoor Survey App will help expand the availability of more locations for the convenience of business people.
For now, there’s no need to install any special hardware on your iPhone since you can have a map via the app to help you reach a preferred venue.
