The new Nexus 5 may have been trending for quite some time now due to the inclusion of the Android 4.4 KitKat, but most are complaining about its features draining the battery life easily.

Developer-Tech.com mentioned in one of their recent articles that the Android KitKat is constantly looking for ways to lengthen battery life. One of the ways to do so is for Android to work with the hardware to gather and render various sensor events in the most efficient manner through batches, instead of the usual individual delivery each time it is detected. This then allows the processor to remain in low power mode up until the delivery in batches is completed.

At the moment, CNET came up with some settings that you can apply on your own to get more life out of your battery even with the Android 4.4 KitKat, explained by Sharon Vaknin.

Take Advantage of the Battery Tool

Go to the built in power monitor where you can see how much power is being used by every app you have. Go first to the notification section and tap on Quick Settings where you can find and tap the battery logo. From the list, try to identify which sucks up most of the battery power and force it for a shutdown.

Lessen the Sync of Accounts

When a lot of accounts are synced in your phone, especially each photo you capture, you hurt the battery life up to the extreme level. So how can you change this? Go to settings and search the email address you use for the account. Tap the account name and access the settings of the sync and uncheck those which you think should not necessarily be synced.

Beware of the NFC

This is very simple to understand. If your phone is a Nexus 5 that is NFC enabled, then make sure that you just turn it on when you need it.

Turn off OK Google and Use GPS

The voice command "OK Google" is fun and exciting but it can really drain a lot of battery. To turn it off, just o Google Now, then in Settings go to Voice option and disable the Hotword Detection. Also, you can use the Battery Saving GPS feature which lessens the reference points used by the system to detect a location. To use it, go to Settings, then Location, and Mode and enable the Battery Saving option.

If you want to experience what the Android 4.4 KitKat can offer, then the fastest route is by purchasing the Nexus 5 according to Engadget. Google also shared that upgrades for other smart phones and devices that will start in the coming weeks ahead.
