Music fans who want to go head to head with their friends on “Guitar Hero Live” can now do so, as Activision and Freestyle Games have announced a new gameplay feature called Rival Challenges. It allows two players to go head to head and see who is better at “Guitar Hero Live,” and it also features a few interesting twists that make the mode more interesting.

Those who want to compete in the Rival Challenges have to reach level 10 first, according to GameSpot. Once a player reaches level 10, they will gain access to Guitar Upgrades and Hero Powers, which should make the one-on-one match-ups more interesting.

The Rival Challenges will occur twice every half hour show. Interestingly enough, it will be the developers of Activision who will choose the songs, so players will have to be prepared for them. This also helps make the game fair, as it catches both players off guard.

Speaking of making the game fair, Activision has assured fans that the game will choose even-leveled players for the challenges. This way, a new player won’t be overmatched against a veteran, so all of the music battles will be as fair as possible.

IGN confirmed that the Rival Challenges will also be holiday-themed in the future, though it looks like any holiday content won’t make it this Christmas. Still, it will be interesting to see how timely the challenges are for other occasions.

Players who win the challenges will have 100XP and bragging rights, so they can level up from these counters. It seems like a fair prize for winning, and it will be interesting to see if future Rival Challenges adds more prizes.

The Rival Challenges was added to the game based on fan feedback, which shows that the developers do listen to their customers. The update is free, so fans don’t have to worry about paying for additional content.

“Guitar Hero Live” is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and iOS devices. The game’s December update will add more songs and a “Brutal” difficulty level for hardcore fans.
