ACCI joins forces with AMMA
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and the Australian Mines and Metals Association (AMMA) will be working for meaningful reforms in workplace relations.
ACCI chief executive Peter Anderson and AMMA chief executive Steve Knott found their views on the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and the Coalition's 'no change' position on the Fair Work Act to be similar.
Anderson said. “There is a need for the business position on industrial relations to cut through more directly into the public arena given we now have a more crowded national political system after the election.”
Knott said the 'no change' stance “infers as a nation, Australia will stand still and allow competing nations to improve their competitiveness at our economic peril.”
The AMMA leader wrote a request to Anderson for their organizations to join hands in pushing for changes in workplace policies. Knott considered the status quo approach is a denial of the fact that workplace legislation is a favorite area for introducing amendments since the forming of the federation.
The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) will be meeting with prime minister Julia Gillard and Chris Evans, the new minister for workplace relations. The ACTU intend to lobby for more changes to Labor's Fair Work Act.
