Two Northern Kentucky parents were arrested after their 4-year-old child was found locked up in a bedroom for 15 hours with human feces and trash all around.

Boone County Sheriff’s Office said the child was in "deplorable conditions." On May 10, deputies were called to Ashford Drive to help the Cabinet for Health and Family Services regarding reports of abuse and neglect, NBC-affiliated WLWT5 reported Monday. The officers found the child locked inside the bedroom, and discovered he was put in the same place for 15 hours every day.

The police said the bedroom walls and ceiling were covered in human feces along with holes, trash and food on the floor. There was a “potty-training mat, a single foam mat where the victim slept," the sheriff's office said, according to CBS/CW-affiliated WKYT. Detectives said each day the parents took the child out of the locked room, but then sent him back if he had an "outburst."

There were other children in the home, virtually attending school. “The Caseltines stated that the child remained locked in the bedroom to prevent any distractions while the other children in the home virtually attended school,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release, according to WKYT.

All the children have been sent to a foster family, local media reported.

On Monday, detectives arrested the parents of the child, identified as Troy Caseltine, 44, and Susan Caseltine, 40, with one count each of criminal abuse. Their bond is set at $500,000 cash.

In a similar incident last year, a 9-year-old Pennsylvania girl was found unconscious after being tortured and locked up in a closet. The child's mother and her boyfriend were charged with child abuse and neglect. Officials found the girl unresponsive on the bathroom floor when they responded to an emergency call on Nov. 23. The child had suffered multiple injuries and had extensive bruising all over her body. She was taken to the Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, in a critical condition. Julianne Lewis, 31, and her boyfriend Dimitrios Moscharis, 34, were charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault and false imprisonment for the abuse and torture of Lewis' daughter.
