South Korean YouTube mega sensation Psy continues to be on a roll. After his Gangnam Style video hit officially exceeded one billion views on the video sharing site (latest count is 1,065,599,218 views), reports said that the dance that he popularised was among the new words in 2012 that made it to Collins Dictionary.

Besides Gangnam Style, the other new words that are in the list are mummy porn, fecal cliff and Romneyshambles.

"Definitely these phrases are symbolic of events, situations or qualities for which no word exists. Since they became popular in the public imagination, they have quick recall value," Deccan Chronicle quoted Parvez Ritzi, content developer of Collins Dictionary.

Psy and Gangnam Style's popularity is beyond question that a Russian company applied for a trademark to use Gangnam Style for various types of beverages such as vodka, cocktail and juices. However, while the Yekaterinburg-based firm named City has applied for a trademark with Rospatent, Russia's patent agency, officials said they need Psy's approval before they could grant a patent.

YG Entertainment, a U.S. company had obtained a trademark in August for Gangnam Style in the hope of cashing in on the South Korean singer's popularity.

Psy acknowledged to BBC that the dance craze he introduced is a one-time phenomenon which he admittedly could not duplicate in his future albums.

Besides commercial products and parodies of the dance, also popular in social networking sites are Psy and Gangnam Style memes such as the following which include the observation of Psy being literally a one-trick pony

his persona being used for other popular characters such as James Bond and Homer Simpson

a means to express one's political belief

how his name (which came from psycho) has evolved

and inevitable comparisons with Canadian singer, Justin Bieber, whom he dethroned as YouTube king.

However, like other flash-in-the-pans who enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame, Psy's star will surely dim one day and this is one meme he wouldn't want to see.
