Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra Says ‘Apple iPhone 6 Is The Most Beautiful Smartphone Ever Built’

Xiaomi's outspoken Vice President, Hugo Barra, has some good words to say about Apple's latest iPhone 6. The irony is that, Xiaomi devices are well-known in the market as a look-alike of Apple devices. Not to forget, Xiaomi is dubbed as "Apple of China."

Even though the outer look of the Xiaomi devices, especially the Mi4 and MiPad, resemble Apple iPhones and iPads respectively, under the hood the devices are incomparable. Notably, Xiaomi devices run on Google's Android OS, while Apple devices run on iOS. In other words, Xiaomi has a very unique style of hardware and software design catering to various strata of markets, but it takes "inspiration" from Apple's innovative design philosophy, reports Phone Arena.

During the WSJD Live event hosted on Oct. 28, unsurprisingly Hugo Barra was questioned about the criticism pertaining to his company imitating Apple's design. Hugo surprised and in fact shocked many by saying "the Apple iPhone 6 is the most beautiful smartphone ever built."

He went on to say Xiaomi's designers and engineers are very much inspired by products that are outstanding in their own way. To give him the benefit of the doubt, every product is inspired from something else. Some of them make it better than the original product. Also, some of the killer features introduced by one OEM, eventually gets a different name and lands in some other OEMs' product.

As Phone Arena puts it, Hugo's forthright views are responsible and candid, mainly because it is hard to find a product that is not influenced by other devices in anyway, at least in the recent times. Many would argue that Xiaomi has taken the inspiration too far, but then, most of Android, iOS and even Windows Phone products are bombarded with criticism for stealing features. And Samsung has been on the forefront and critics' favourite child for longer period of time.

Very interestingly, Hugo did not stop his praise for Apple right there. He further added that the Control Center on Apple iOS is superior to the Quick Settings seen in Android-based devices. However, he did append a cheeky statement to counter Apple. According to him, the iPhone 6 was inspired by none-other-then HTC's One line of handsets. But he was quick to add that, Apple has given a staggering twist to the inspired product to make it look Apple-like. He concluded by saying Xiaomi fans can expect a lot of design twists in the upcoming devices.
