Popular videogame franchises that have taken the episodic content delivery route, such as Telltale Games' "The Walking Dead" series leave fans waiting for months between episodic instalments. Capcom's "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" got around the problem by finishing the game first and releasing each episode on a weekly basis. However, the experience won't be described as complete by majority of gamers because the game shipped without crucial online features and was riddled with many bugs; some of which were game breaking.

"Revelations 2" received the much awaited online co-op functionality on March 31, which was more than a month since the first episode dropped way back in Feb. 24. Unfortunately, this feature was patched in only for the PC and PS4 versions of the game, with Xbox One users left high and dry without any explanation other than the usual boilerplate "technical difficulty" response.

VG247 reports that Xbox One players no longer have to suffer the loneliness of single-player Raid Mode. The latest patch for "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" now enables co-op for the Xbox One version as well. Those who have bought the game for Microsoft's console should have received a new update enabling the long awaited feature along with a few other goodies.

One of the pre-requisites for a complete online experience is creating a Resident Evil.net account. Doing so allows gamers to track telemetry data pertaining to speed, accuracy, completion and other specifics, in addition to the ability to partake in special weekly and monthly events that unlock skins, rare weapons, customisation parts and other in-game goodies.

For the Xbox One users who already have a RE.net account or intend to sign up for a new one, Capcom has announced a bonus of 20,000 RE points. This has been issued as atonement through an official blog post for the nearly month long delay in bringing Raid Mode online co-op support to the platform. The points can be spent to purchase anything from the many in-game items and rewards to enhance the Raid Mode experience.

The new update also brings some cheer to other platforms as well. Capcom has added three new skins that radically change the look of existing character models to add two new characters. This includes a life sized replica of Natalia's ill-fated plush toy Lottie, which has been added as a skin for the bonus character Cipher. Likewise, the existing character Gina Foley serves as a base model for the Rachael skin, which transforms Gina into unlucky FBC agent Rachael Foley. The last skin is a throwback to one of the game's mini-bosses – the drill wielding mutant Pedro.

However, this hasn't been enough to appease the fans. Most of them aren't too pleased because the co-op feature was enabled only for the game's optional Raid Mode, which is a horde-like mode incorporating RPG elements that pits players against many waves of increasingly tougher enemies. The primary campaign, which prominently features co-op elements, still hasn't received online co-op support.

The discussion forums on the game's Steam community section are filled with fans demanding a patch enabling online co-op functionality for the main campaign as well. While Capcom has ruled out the possibility of such a patch, let's not forget that it had claimed the same thing for offline split-screen co-op, which was patched in subsequently.
