“Winds of Winter” author George R. R. Martin suggested using another one of his book series to create a spin-off TV series, in a recent interview. The HBO show “Game of Thrones” is nearing the end, so the fans are looking at the possibility of another great show to take its place.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Martin recalled the ending of the TV series “The Naked City,” which he enjoyed watching as a kid. Each episode of the show always ended with a voice over saying that the story of the episode was one of eight million. Martin said that his fantasy world of Westeros also had eight million stories and the other continent Essos had even more, giving writers and producers a sea of material for a spin off series.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have so far not expressed any interest in creating a spin-off series after “Game of Thrones” ends. The TV series is based on “A Song of Ice and Fire” by Martin and the author is currently busy writing the sixth book “Winds of Winter” in the same series.

Martin suggested that after the popular show ends, HBO can consider adapting his “Dunk and Egg” stories. Dunk is the nickname of a “hedge knight” who went on to become a Kingsguard and Egg is the nickname of Dunk’s squire, who was later known as King Aegon V Targaryen.

The “Dunk and Egg” stories are set about 90 years before Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) wins during the rebellion and becomes king. The series is more of an action/adventure story rather than the dark tone of the current HBO series. Martin suggests that each of this novellas be made into two-hour stand-alone movies rather than taking an episodic approach.

Martin did not talk about the possible release date of “Winds of Winter” or how much work is still pending. The author had initially planned to release the book in 2016, before the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 premiere.
