“Vikings” season 4 is crucial for Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) as speculations are rife that the season will observe him turning into the greatest Viking following Ragnar Lothbrok’s (Travis Fimmel) death.

Andersen, who is playing the role of Ivar, a born cripple and an impotent, has spilled the beans on how difficult was it to be essaying the role and spending most of the time crawling.

In conversation with Variety, Anderson said that the role took a physical toll on him. “My left wrist is really complaining, but that’s about it. The costume girls have done an outstanding job giving me special gloves. I’m really only crawling for a few meters for a few takes." "They did give us a personal trainer when we first got here, and he literally killed us. I was crawling around the hotel room for the first few weeks,” he added.

Andersen also hinted that Ivar will emerge out to be one of the greatest Vikings of all time in “Vikings” season 4, as it is speculated. “What eventually happens is Ragnar eventually succeeds giving Ivar some ambition and pushing him forward.”

The story is also going along similar lines. In the last episode, Ragnar and Ivar were seen bonding along quite well with each other. Ragnar even asked him to make his disease his strength. Ivar will learn quite a lot of lessons from Ragnar on this journey.

But will Ivar ever battle it out against the enemies? Anderson says he will use his brains against them. “I can’t really reveal anything, but because Ivar is so intelligent, he’s going to be a great military strategist. Of course, we’ll never see him on the battlefield slaying Christians, but trust me, he’ll find his own way to do it. He’ll be the one standing on the hill organizing, which is also pretty cool, I have to say.”

“Vikings” season 4 episode 14 will air on History at 9PM in the US. In Australia, the season will start airing from January 11 on SBS at 8:30PM.
