“The Vampire Diaries” star Annie Wersching is speaking up about her character Lily Salvatore’s relationship with sons Damon and Stefan, as well as a hint of an upcoming battle against Julian.

Wersching’s character Lily has been one of the major players in “The Vampire Diaries.” Season 7 of the hit CW show had her dealing with her past, dealing with the heretics, as well as Julian and trying to mend her relationship with her sons. She endured a lot, including an abusive relationship with Damon and Stefan’s father, Giuseppe. When Wersching learned of Lily’s backstory, she shared with MTV that she was “devastated” when she first read about it.

“I knew her life wasn’t great with Giuseppe...,” she said. “It’s completely shaped the relationship that Lily and her children have.”

Lily eventually met the vampire Julian, played by Todd Lasance, however she was also abused by the vampire, albeit not physically, given his manipulative ways. This had her coming up with a plan to fight Julian with the help of Damon and Stefan, played by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, respectively.

Wersching told TVLine that the war between the Salvatore and Julian will be similar to “War of the Roses” where her character had to “keep up the appearance” that she’s still on Julian’s and the heretics' side. “There are a lot of moments where she has to pretend like things are OK,” she explained. “And then you see a shot where he’s not looking at her, and she’s like, 'Oh, God…'”

Apart from talking about Lily’s past and her challenges, Wersching also teased that an upcoming flashback will feature Damon in a Civil War scene. She revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the flashback scene will be shown in episode 10 of “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 and even described the episode as “super interesting. “It’s one of the best scripts I’ve read,” she gushed.

Meanwhile, she also revealed in her TVLine interview that episode 8 will have her doing something that she thinks is best for her sons and the heretics. Wersching explained that Lily hasn’t been able to decide whether to choose the heretics side or sons, however, the events in episode 8 will push her to take a final stand.

“So she’s finally found an answer to that ultimatum,” she stated. “She thinks she’s helping both sides by making this choice.” Fans would have to watch episode 8 of “The Vampire Diaries” to find what Lily has decided to do.

“The Vampire Diaries” season 7 airs every Thursday in the U.S. on CW and Friday’s on Australia’s Fox 8.
