It’s a bittersweet confirmation when fans knew that “The Vampire Diaries” is going to end with its 8th season. But while it’s dreadful news, it also carries the highly anticipated return of Nina Dobrev to the show.

During the San Diego Comic Con, executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec announced the decision to end TVD on its upcoming season. As if the announcement wasn’t enough to cause a whirlwind of feels to fans, the TVD panel also released a farewell video.

Devoted fans of the show know that the end is inevitable, notably when Nina Dobrev decided to exit the show. So the news didn’t really surprise Comic Con attendees or TVD fans altogether, much less so for causing their hearts to yearn for the early days of TVD.

To this, one major thing that keeps fans on edge for TVD season 8 is for Elena Gilbert to wake up, for Nina Dobrev to come back, and wrap up the vampire fantasy drama.

3 hints of Nina Dobrev’s return for the final season of “The Vampire Diaries”

1.) Julie Plec said so

It’s not the first time reports have quoted Julie Plec saying that Nina will come back for the series finale. Whether it is going to be a rumoured character like Sybil or as Elena Gilbert who’s going to share one last moment with Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), it’s something Plec has been telling fans.

“Nina has always said that if there’s something for her to do in the series finale that she will be there to do it,” Plec told EW. “When she left, she said, ‘I want to see this character to its end at the end of the show, so I can’t wait to come back and put her to bed again.’”

In this case, even Nina wants Elena Gilbert to have one last goodbye.

2.) Bonnie dies, Kat Graham leaves

It’s a sad picture, yes. But that’s what the mystical world of TVD set for the ill-fated best friends. One dies if one lives. As such, Bonnie has to die so Elena could live.

Both Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder announced they’re leaving after season 8, which may or may not have set the final nail in the coffin for TVD. Reportedly, Graham along with the writers are deciding the best way for Bonnie to say goodbye.

Fans can only recall the great friendship of Bonnie with Elena and Caroline (Candice King), and the most heart-wrenching way Bonnie can leave is by sacrificing her life and sharing one last moment with Elena.

3.) Nina Dobrev loves her Vampire Diaries family and fans

Nina may have new projects now, and she’s leading a great life post TVD. However, she knows how much TVD fans loved her, and in return how much she loves them back, as she stated in her Instagram post. Same goes for her co-workers whom she claimed as her “extended family.”

As Nina already lent her voice for the season 7 finale, the likelihood of her returning to “The Vampire Diaries” season 8 could be her last gift and goodbye to her fans and TVD family.
