Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” is turning out to be a wild ride for some of the beloved characters in the hit CW series. In the latest trailer, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is worried about the consequences of bringing Alaric’s (Matt Davis) wife, Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe), back from the dead. Meanwhile, showrunner Caroline Dries hinted a valid reason for the Steroline split – and it’s not purely because of Valerie (Elizabeth Blackmore).

The latest trailer for “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 shows Alaric looking after his sleeping wife Jo. Episode 4 saw Jo’s resurrection through the magic of the Phoenix Stone. However, despite Alaric’s happiness of having his wife back, Bonnie is uncomfortable with the stone’s power and abilities, TV Guide reports.

The exclusive sneak peek shows Bonnie asking Alaric to hand over the Phoenix Stone to her so she could learn more about its magic.

“I need to figure out how it brought your wife back…” she told Alaric. "In less than 24 hours, I raised two people from the dead with a sketchy spell and something called a Phoenix Stone. No research, no rehearsal time and no contingency plan. And now that I have a little breathing room, I want to figure out what kind of magic I was dealing with just in case I opened up Pandora's rock."

Meanwhile, “The Vampire Diaries” executive producer Dries told TV Line that the Steroline couple’s break-up in Season 7 won’t be purely about Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) romantic past with the heretic Valerie. Although part of the reason why Wesley’s character Stefan and Candice King’s Caroline’s relationship will be rocky is because of Valerie, there’s something “bigger” and more “legit” behind their separation, according to Dries.

“Valerie is part of the reason, but it’s a much bigger, more emotional, legit reason,” she explained to TV Line. “It’s beyond petty jealousy or Stefan cheating on Caroline or anything like that.”

Last month, Wesley and King both hinted a love triangle between their “The Vampire Diaries” characters Stefan, Caroline and Valerie. King said in an interview then that even if her character was all set to pursue a romantic relationship with Stefan, things won’t be smooth-sailing for the two.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 airs every Thursday in the U.S. on CW and Friday in Australia on Fox8.
