In a Q&A session with Tesla car owners in Paris last week, Tesla CEO Elon Mask mentioned that another version of Powerwall Batteries will likely be available this summer.

“We've got the Tesla Powerwall and Powerpack, which we have a lot of trials underway right now around the world,” confirmed Musk in the Q&A session (see video below), first reported by Electrek.

According to the report, the release of another version of the Powerwall may overlap with the beginning of battery production at the new Gigafactory in Nevada. The current cells are produced by Panasonic, and the Gigafactory is expected to start production of battery cells with “moderate improvements.”

“We’ll be coming out with version two of the Powerwall probably around July, August this year, which will see further step change in capabilities,” added Musk, although he did not provide more detailed information.

The Tesla Powerwall is a wall-mounted rechargeable lithium ion battery powered completely by solar energy. The rechargeable battery pack is made for powering households, and has the capability to power an entire house.

The Powerwall battery system depends entirely on rooftop solar panels which generate electricity during peak sunlight hours. This stored energy is then used at night. Powerwall batteries promise to reduce electricity bills as well as dependency on the electrical grid by utilising the stored energy in times of need.

Last week saw the successful installation of Powerwall Home Batteries in Australia. With abundant sunshine and plenty of rooftop solar homes, Australia seems to be the ideal region to introduce the Powerwall Home Battery.

The Tesla Powerwall has been a huge success since launch, with the company announcing that the device is sold out until mid-2016.
