Almost a week after the premiere of her new NBC comedy series “Telenovela,” former “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria, 40, got engaged to Grupo Televisa president Jose Antonio Baston, 46. Prior to the engagement, she received some compliments from her “Telenovela” co-star Jencarlos Canela, 27.

On Dec. 5, Canela attended the Grand Slam Party Latino in Miami, Florida. During the event, he had an interview with Billboard backstage in which he described Longoria as an intelligent and kind woman. He said his “Telenovela” co-star is “one of the most incredible human beings” he has ever met.

It was Longoria who contacted Canela in 2014 to invite him to be part of the cast of “Telenovela.” With several Latin TV series under his belt, he did not think twice about joining the cast of the new NBC comedy series.

In “Telenovela,” Canela plays Xavier Castillo, who was recently hired to co-star on the show of his former wife, Ana Sofia Calderon, played by Longoria. Created by Chrissy Pietrosh, Jessica Goldstein and Robert Harling, the NBC comedy series also stars Diana Maria Riva, Amaury Nolasco, Jose Moreno Brooks, Jadyn Douglas, Alex Meneses and Izzy Diaz, among others.

Meanwhile, Longoria and Baston recently announced their engagement. With a large ruby engagement ring, the Grupo Televisa president proposed to the “Telenovela” star during a trip to Dubai to attend the Global Gift Gala at the 2015 Dubai International Film Festival.

Aside from their engagement, Longoria and Baston also enjoyed a trek to the desert and shopping while in Dubai. They also met with some friends, including “Empire” Season 2 star Terrence Howard, according to E! News.

Longoria and Baston started dating in 2013, almost a year after “Desperate Housewives” ended. Prior to Baston, Longoria was married to “General Hospital” actor Tyler Christopher from 2002 to 2004 and to the San Antonio Spurs player Tony Parker from 2007 to 2011.
