The last time there was an update about Alex was over a year ago when Jody told the boys she was seen smoking cannabis behind a bench in the school gym. It looked like her adjustment period is over. She and her boyfriend Henry, the most popular guy in school, would be prom queen and king. School life appeared to be normal for the former vampire bait.

The same couldn’t be said for Claire, who called Sam and Dean to come over because she suspected there was a supernatural force behind the missing persons in their town. As Jody told the Winchesters, Claire had been skipping classes and accusing normal people as monsters. The only reason she’s not in jail was because Jody is the sheriff. Seeing how Claire talked to Jody, Dean reprimanded Jimmy Novak’s (Castiel’s vessel, played by Misha Collins) daughter to treat Jody better as she has been trying to give Claire a normal life despite the circumstances.

Jody, on the other hand, has been adjusting as well. As the unofficial adoptive mother of the girls, she has her hands full with raising the two disparate teens.

The episode offered a glimpse of a normal family life that Jody has been trying to carve for the girls. It also featured a hilariously awkward conversation about sex and protection during dinner, which embarrassed not just the teen girls, but also the grown-up male hunters.

Doubtful that there were supernatural beings wreaking havoc in town, Sam advised Claire to stay with Jody and Alex in the meantime. As he told her, she would encounter monsters everywhere, but she might lose the family she’s got if she left.

The boys started believing Claire about her suspicions when Alex’s favourite teacher was killed and hung on a flagpole. The killer turned out to be Henry. The school janitor, a vampire named Rich, was from Alex’s past. He tried to help her escape when she was still being used as a bait for vampires. However, Rich was turned into one and had killed his own family. Out for revenge, he searched for Alex. He then turned Henry into a vampire and sent him to get close to Alex. Killing Alex’s favourite teacher was the first step in hurting her. The second was killing her family – Jody and Claire.

With the help of Sam and Dean, the three girls were able to kill both Henry and Rich. In the end, Claire learnt how to appreciate Jody more. She still wanted to become a hunter, while Alex, aware that other vampires would come for her, said she would be ready for them. But in the meantime, she would strive for a normal life.
