The ‘Superior’ Venom And Doctor Octopus Invade ‘Spider-Man: Unlimited'
Few Spider-Man villains are as iconic as Doctor Octopus and Venom. Both characters have appeared in various forms of media that have centred around the web head, including cartoons, video games and the live action Sam Raimi films. So their inclusion in the new “Spider-Man Unlimited” update was only a matter of time.
Touch Arcade managed to have some hands-on time with the upcoming “Spider-Man: Unlimited” update during this year’s Game Developers Conference. The video, which can be seen below, features a boss fight with the mad doctor in a new playable area that should be familiar to Spider-Man fans, as the gang of Spider-Men took on the mad doctor at his secret underwater base.
The video also showcased Venom in ways fans probably did not anticipate. Instead of being one of the bosses, Venom will be a playable character that fans can use to their liking. Another interesting facet is that it is neither the classic Eddie Brock version nor is it the current Venom host Flash Thompson. Instead it is the “Superior” Venom who is actually the “Superior” Spider-Man possessed by the Venom symbiote.
Hints to the appearance of Doctor Octopus were made early on when mobile game developer Gameloft surveyed their fans about a new "Spider-Man Unlimited" logo for the next update. Both logos feature “Superior” Spider-Man doing a pose, with the deadly tentacles of Otto Octavius in the background. Oddly enough, the “Superior” Spider-Man is actually Otto Octavius in Peter Parker’s body, so the choice of that particular Spider-Man being in the game’s icon is interesting to say the least.
While making his first full appearance in this update, the presence of Doctor Octopus could always be seen in the ‘Spider-Man: Unlimited” infinite runner. There are times in the game where, instead of taking on a regular boss like Green Goblin or Morlun, the player would encounter a giant octo-bot that was being controlled by the mad doctor himself, Otto Octavius.
Like most of the updates for the game, fans can expect a slew of new Spider-Men and Spider-Women to hit the update, along with various new challenges, the end of the “Spider-Verse” storyline and the brand new Doctor Octopus story chapter. Imore reports that the update should be coming at the end of the month, so Spider-Man fans shouldn’t have to wait too long to get their spider swinging fix.
