CW's “Supergirl” has cast “Wonder Woman” star Lynda Carter as President Olivia Marsdin. Carter gets the chance to work alongside Melissa Marie Benoist (Kara/Supergirl) and director Rachel Talalay. The director has recently talked about working with the two female cast members, how they support each other and Wonder Woman’s reference in the show.

Talalay told Cinema Blend about what went into the Wonder Woman callbacks in the “Welcome to Earth” episode of “Supergirl” season 2. “They were written in the script, and they were absolutely embraced,” she said.

The “Tank Girl” director said it was actually great because it gave them the permission to just say “We know we're doing Wonder Woman homages.” She also admitted that there was a magical moment when it was scripted that Benoist was to do the Wonder Woman twirl to put herself out when she was on fire.

“Lynda came and said, 'I'll show you how to do it.' I have on my phone a video of Lynda Carter showing Melissa Benoist how,” Talalay has recalled. She also revealed that Carter gave Benoist some tips on how to perfect the twirl.

Some fans are wondering if the show will find a way to fit the iconic Wonder Woman jet. It was already revealed that Carter is not on “Supergirl” to be Wonder Woman, but fans are hoping to get to a live action mention of the invisible plane.

Aside from Marsdin, another new character to look forward to in “Supergirl” season 2 is Mxyzptlk. “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” actor Peter Gadiot was picked to play the villain character, who is fond of tormenting Superman.

“Supergirl” returns to the small screens in the US on Jan. 23. The series is expected to air on Fox8 in Australia. Official air date for “Supergirl” season 2 episode 9 in Australia is yet to be confirmed.
