“Wonder Woman” star Lynda Carter is officially joining the cast of “Supergirl.” The 64-year-old actress has been picked to play the president of the United States in the second season of the CBS-turned-CW drama.

Before the official confirmation of Carter’s casting in the series, it was widely speculated that she would be part of the show. Fans will be delighted to know that the actress, who brought Wonder Woman to life on television in 1970, is set to appear for the first time in the third episode of “Supergirl” season 2 as shared by Deadline.

Carter was most recently seen performing for “Matron Mama Morton” in the London West End production of “Chicago.” Aside from “Wonder Woman,” her other television credits also include “The Muppet Show,” “Partners in Crime and “Two and a Half Men.”

The last time Carter appeared in small screens was in 2013 for “Two and a Half Men,” in which she made an appearance as herself. She has become the second high profile casting for “Supergirl” after “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Hoechlin was cast to portray Superman/Clark Kent.

Aside from Carter, another new face to look forward to in the sophomore season of “Supergirl” is “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” actor Peter Gadiot. TV Line has reported that Gadiot will be part of the series as Mxyzptlk. Fans of the comics know the character as a reality-bending trickster from the Fifth Dimension who is fond of tormenting Superman.

Gadiot has also starred in television shows like “Matador” and “Tut and Queen of the South.” How his character and Carter’s will fit into the world of Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Marie Benoist) is yet to be revealed.

“Supergirl” returns to the small screens in the US on Jan. 23. The series is expected to air on FOX8 in Australia. Official air date for “Supergirl” season 2 episode 9 in Australia is yet to be confirmed.
