Only one more episode left until the Season 2 finale of “The Strain,” and yet, the strigois are still reigning over New York City. However, episode 12 somehow shows there’s still hope for humanity to win the fight against the vampires after Setrakian finally agrees to bid on the Occido Lumen.

Episode 12, titled “Fallen Light,” opens with a flashback scene showing how Eph meets Nora during the Infectious Disease Conference in Washington. Eph offers Nora to work with him, marking the start of their professional relationship that has somehow turned romantic in the long run.

“Fallen Light” also shows how Eph has been confiding with Nora about his strained marriage and his struggle to gain custody over Zach with his estranged wife Kelly. Eventually, viewers learned that Kelly filed the divorce first and took full custody of Zach. Viewers also saw how Eph and Nora have been fighting their feelings for one another and finally succumbing to it after Eph mentioned the divorce.

However, back in the present, that love seemed to have fizzled after Nora suspects that Eph had slept with another woman while he was in Washington while she and Zach were left battling for their lives from the strigois. In episode 6, titled “Identity,” Eph’s sexual encounter with Lee Thomas eventually caused her death.

Episode 12 in season 2 of “The Strain” also brought hope for Zach as he receives news that his grandparents are still alive. Nora and Eph strike a bargain with Justine that they get tickets out to bring Zach to his grandparents in Georgia in exchange for the vaccine Justine and her men could use as bioweapon against the strigois.

Justine, on the other hand, is suspected of murdering the mayor after she gets into a heated argument with him over his threatens of indictment. With the mayor’s death, Palmer manages to convince the high officials to appoint Justine as the new special director of security.

In another scene, viewers saw Setrakian and Fet agreeing to a bidding war over the Occido Lumen with Eldritch Palmer. However, it turns out that Eichorst will be betting on behalf of Palmer, according to The Master’s wishes.

Meanwhile, Setrakian is promised gold by Quinlan as payment for the Occido Lumen. However, Quinlan fears Setrakian will use the book to kill the Ancients. So he hires Gus to take the book from Setrakian after the bidding whatever means necessary, even if it means killing the old man. Gus and Silver Angel on the other hand manage to free the prisoners from the men’s penitentiary and recruit them to work for Quinlan.
