Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has revealed how Daisy Ridley trained for her fighting scenes in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The actress reportedly learned how to do the bojutsu fighting style, which according to readers proves she has more Maul relations than Skywalker blood.

During a press conference in Japan for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Daisy Ridley (Rey) uses a staff as her weapon in the film. Starwars7news shared a photo from the movie trailer showing the actress holding the staff. Kennedy revealed that Daisy Ridley “trained with the swordfight choreographer of Game of Thrones” who taught her how to do the bojutsu fighting style. “Daisy’s gotten to be so good at bojutsu that even grown men on the set fear it,” Kennedy jokingly said.

According to Making Star Wars, it’s interesting to learn that Daisy Ridley uses her staff and fights using bojutsu. in the “Star Wars” saga the other known character known to have used the same fighting style was the villain Darth Maul. “It’ll be interesting to see Rey use it in combat and how it compares to the saga’s reigning staff champion, Darth Maul,” writer Jason Ward said. Bojutsu is believed to be one of the hardest fighting styles to learn. Even Darth Maul actor Ray Park admitted this during a previous interview with L.A. Times’ Hero Complex. “Bo staff is one of the hardest weapons to practice,” he said.

During the same press conference, Daisy Ridley also revealed the preparations she had to do for her role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The actress admitted she didn’t do a lot of research about her character but focused more on the script and the physical training.

“What I mainly did for this was to conduct physical training. Reading the script and interpreting Rey’s thoughts and actions were also important, as I wanted to understand what I should show in the film,” she said.

It would be interesting to also see Daisy Ridley do some sword fighting scenes in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” However, it seems her main fighting style would be the bojutsu with the staff her main weapon in the film.
