After a leak suggested that Benicio Del Toro will be playing a character in the Resistance, reports surfaced showing the actor repeatedly teasing that he is playing a “villain” in “Star Wars Episode 8.” A new report now attempts to clarify and reinforce the leak by suggesting that the actor’s character could be a “double crosser.”

[Spoiler alert]

Details about Del Toro’s character in the movie have remained under wraps. However, speculation and leaks about his character have been circulating on the internet for some time now. One of the leaks stated that the actor will be playing a military veteran of the Republic who now works with the Resistance.

A report by Star Wars News Net appears to contradict the leak by pointing to different interviews by the actor. Del Toro has repeatedly said that he is playing a villain in the movie. The blog I Was Raised To Do One Thing, which had previously said that the actor is playing a Resistance officer, has now posted a clarification.

According to the report, the source from “Star Wars: Episode 8” still maintains that Del Toto will be playing a Resistance officer in the movie. The source is not sure why the actor would say that his character is a “villain.” The source speculates that the actor is either joking or misdirecting the fans, to keep the element of surprise.

Another possibility, the source pointed out, is that Del Toro’s character is a “double crosser,” similar to Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) in “Empire Strikes Back.” Lando was forced to double cross his friend Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and work with the Empire in the movie.

Will Del Toro’s character double cross the Resistance in “Star Wars: Episode 8”? The First Order scored a big victory in “The Force Awakens,” but also suffered losses, so the two sides appear to be evenly matched and need allies to win.
