A Spanish banderillero suffered a “bullseye” hit on his private male part when the raging toro gored his groin. As a result of the incident, Marco Galan lost one testicle on Sunday.

Galan is not a bullfighter or torero. His role is to stick sharp flags on the bull’s side. When the bull charged him, the animal’s right horn slid up the back of Galan’s sequined jacket rather than puncture his body. But his ball was caught by the bull’s left horn, reports The Telegraph.

Despite his wound, Galan managed to walk to the bullring’s hospital. He underwent surgery and was later moved to the San Francisco de Asis Hospital in north of Madrid, reports Mirror. Fortunately for Galan, since he still has one testicle left, he is still capable of fathering a child, according to NetDoctor.

A bullfighter named Rafaelillo exacted revenged on the toro for Galan since the beast was eventually killed by two punctures and a thrust, which delighted the Madrid audience. The bloody sport has witnessed man losing to animal recently. In May, bullfighter Jimenez Fortes was gored on the neck in the same bullring, although Fortes survived. In 2010, torero Julio Aparicio Diaz was gored by a bull on his throat.

The Catalan Parliament banned bullfighting in the area in July 2010. Celebrities such as Pamela Anderson and Ricky Gervais, as well as animal rights group supported the ban which took effect in 2012. Of the 135 legislators, 68 voted for the ban, while 55 opposed the move. Before the ban, Barcelona – the only city which had a bullring in Catalonia – held 15 bullfights a year.
